Analysing Advertisements (part 2)

There are many different types of advertisements. There are advertisements which are used to promote an artists/bands tour, promotions of their album and sometimes there is a merge of both tour promotion and album promotion. Here are three examples, each showing a different way that they advertise their artist/band.

This is an advert for My Chemical Romance's new 'Danger Days World Contamination Tour' which will happen next year. This shows just one type of advertisments that I could do as this is a popular type of promotion in music magazines. As you can tell from the second image, the artwork and the pink font colour has been carried on to the advertisment in order to create a link between the two fr the audience. This makes the album more recognisable because the reader may have seen the advert in a magazine or vice versa. It mentions the date of when the tickets come on sale, places to buy them online, their official website and the tour sponsor company. It also has the same font as the album, creating further reference to the album. All of this allows the reader to create links with the bands music and in some cases, gets the reader to listen to their music and then buy tickets.

The first image is an advertisment of Beach House's new album and their tour dates for the UK. On the advert, it gives the date of realease as "OUT NOW", what tracks have been included on the album (which have been brought out as singles previously), a quote and rating from the magazine its featured in which in this case is NME and their websites. This allows the reader to get as much information from the advert as possible and if they are interested in finding out more, then using the websites printed to help them to explore the band and album. The background has the same design as the album artwork and this link would help the reader identify their album if they saw in a retail shop or online. Following this, it also has a HMV logo saying that the album is available there which shows that the album is easily easy to get a copy of, seeing as it is available in the UK's most popular and well known music chain.

The first picture shows a photo for the promotion of Hurts new album called 'Happiness'. As you can see from the second picture, there is a direct link between the advertisement and the album cover which helps the audience to identify the artist easily. The advert for the album has their website, the name of their album with the featured songs (which music videos have been made for), release date and reviews from magazines and websites. The reviews gives the audience some kind of scope as to see how good the album is. Feedback seems to be important for the audience so it is very useful to have some quotes on there. Following this, it has a website printed on the advert, allowing the audience to have access to more information on the artist.

The reoccurring theme that comes through when analysing these adverts is that they all have a link with the album artwork. This shows me that in order to create an effective advert, I must keep a link/reference from the digipak to the advert. This will ensure that the audience can recognise and identify the artist at a glance if they have seen the album cover or music video.
